GINO SARFATTI - BIOGRAPHY



Gino Sarfatti was born in Venice in 1912. He graduated in Naval engineer at the University of Genoa.
From 1939 on he worked in lamp project founding Arteluce, which become very soon a reference in Italy and abroad for the “Movimento” of modern design in the lighting field. During his career Sarfatti projected more than 400 lamps by following a meticulous research of innovative solutions for shapes, materials, technologies, technical effects and the design characteristic. Gino Sarfatti and Arteluce won several awards like the Compasso d'Oro in 1954 and 1955 and the Diploma Onorario of the Triennale di Milano.
During the 50's and the 60's, Arteluce represented a real innovation pole for architects and designers such as F. Albini and F. Helg, C. Belgioioso-Peressuti - E.Rogers, V. Latis, V. Viganò, G. Frattini, M. Huber etc..
The famous shop of Arteluce in corso Matteotti in Milan was designed with Marco Zanuso in 1951 and ten years later the shop in Via della Spiga was designed with V. Viganò, his best friend. Gino Sarfatti died in Gravedona in 1984.
